Year-End Function Venues in Pretoria and Johannesburg: A Practical Guide for Busy Organisers

Year-End Function Venues in Pretoria and Johannesburg: A Practical Guide for Busy Organisers

It is October. Someone in the office has just been told: “You’re organising the year-end.”

If that is you, here is the short version. Book by the end of October, pick a format that suits your team, and choose a venue that handles food, décor and service in one booking. December weekends fill up fast, and the last thing you want is to be phoning venues in the week before the office closes.

Step 1: Choose the format

Not every team wants a long night out. The three common formats:

FormatWorks forWatch out for
Daytime lunch or brunchMixed teams, parents, people with long commutesNeeds a weekday or Saturday slot
Evening functionTeams who want a proper celebrationVenue hire fees, transport home
Catered office partyTeams who cannot leave the officeSomeone still has to set up and clean

A daytime function often gets the best turnout. People can attend without arranging childcare or a lift home.

Step 2: Set a per-person budget

Work backwards from your total budget. Divide by headcount, then check what each venue includes in that number: food, drinks, décor, service and any venue hire. See What a Function Really Costs Per Person for a full checklist.

Step 3: Book early

Aim to confirm by the end of October for a late November or early December date. If you are reading this later, ask for weekday dates: they are often easier to secure.

Step 4: Make it memorable without making it complicated

One activity beats a long programme of speeches. Ideas that suit a mixed office:

  • Sip and paint
  • Cake decorating
  • A make-up workshop for a ladies’ function
  • A styled high tea for a smaller team
